Davido – “In The Garden” Ft. Morravey: A Love Song That Introduced DMW’s Next Star
“In The Garden” is track 3 on Davido’s album Timeless, released March 31, 2023. It’s a 2:45 romantic cut featuring Morravey, who was introduced to the world through this exact song.
How It Came About
Morravey was discovered after a cover video of her went viral on social media in 2023. Davido found the clip, signed her to DMW, and put her straight on Timeless. “In The Garden” became her debut single and her breakout moment.
The track debuted at No. 83 on the TurnTable Top 100 chart, and Morravey later performed live sessions of it with Glitch Africa.
Production and Vibe
Produced by Rore, the song blends soft Afrobeats with R&B undertones. The beat is airy and melodic, built on gentle percussion, guitar riffs, and a smooth bassline. It’s slower and more intimate than the first two tracks on Timeless, giving space for both vocals to shine.
Lyrics and Message
“In The Garden” is a straightforward love song about wanting to be with someone in the moment.
Morravey opens with: “Never seen no man like you / Been in a lot of places but no one like you.” The chorus repeats the idea of falling in the garden and wanting to give love, with the line “I want you to be my man” running through.
Davido comes in with Yoruba and English lines, promising to be there whenever she needs love: “Call me when you need some love / Today na holiday.” The post-chorus “I’ll change your status, yeah” plays on both relationship status and upgrading someone’s life.
It’s romantic, slightly playful, and feels like early-stage love where everything feels new and exciting.
Role on Timeless
After the defiant “Over Dem” and the smooth “Feel,” “In The Garden” keeps the album’s emotional range open. It’s one of the most tender moments on the project, and it doubles as the introduction of Morravey to the DMW roster and to Afrobeats fans.
The collaboration paid off — Morravey went on to release her debut EP RAVI in November 2023, with Davido featuring on it. She was also named Apple Music’s Latest Act and one of Billboard’s Afrobeats Fresh Picks later that year.
Reception
Fans praised the chemistry between Davido and Morravey, calling it one of the album’s most replayable love songs. The track also got live performance attention during Davido’s Timeless concert at TBS Lagos.
