ShattaFest UK Cancelled After Stampede Concerns Force Police Shutdown

ShattaFest UK has been called off after police shut down the event due to serious overcrowding and safety concerns.

According to UK authorities, the venue went over its approved capacity, leading to a stampede incident that prompted an immediate intervention to protect public safety.

Organisers, Ghana Party in the Park, confirmed the cancellation in a statement and asked fans to stay away from the festival grounds while emergency services dealt with the situation.

“Due to a major incident at the festival site, the event has been temporarily paused. Please do not travel to or come to the festival site until further notice,” the statement read.

They added:
“We kindly ask everyone to stay away from the area to allow emergency services and relevant authorities to carry out their work safely. We will provide further updates as soon as more information becomes available. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and cooperation.”

The organisers have not yet said whether the event will be rescheduled or if ticket holders will get refunds.

ShattaFest was set to feature Ghanaian dancehall star Shatta Wale as a headline act, and was expected to draw large crowds of fans from across the UK and beyond.

A UK police officer captured on video confirmed the shutdown, saying:
“There’s been a massive accident, a stampede which led to quite a lot of people getting hurt, and for that reason and for public safety it has to be shut down.”

Authorities have not yet confirmed if there were any injuries or arrests following the incident.
