“Flames” is track 4 on Gyakie’s My Diary EP, released July 22, 2022. At 2:50 minutes, it’s the only feature on the project and the most commercial cut — a sultry Afrobeats love song with Davido on the hook.

Produced by Jay Weathers, the track blends Gyakie’s soft, melodic vocals with Davido’s signature Afrobeats energy. It’s a love song about loyalty and staying through the highs and lows: “Never, never will I take another one aside you… We are on fire, flames.” The chemistry works because Gyakie keeps it intimate while Davido brings the swagger.

Gyakie said getting Davido on the song was surreal. She played him unreleased tracks and “Flames” was his favorite. She literally went to the bathroom to cry when he started recording, saying “I couldn’t believe that I was in the same space with him. I was like, ‘This has to be a dream. If it’s a dream, I don’t want to get out’”.

On My Diary, “Flames” is the bridge between the personal diary entries and radio-ready Afropop. It’s the track that introduces Gyakie to Davido’s massive fanbase without losing the EP’s intimate feel. Tooxclusive called it the standout feature that “sparks so many things up” on the project.
