Olivetheboy “Trees”: The Heartbreak Burnout Anthem

“Trees” is a standout cut from Olivetheboy’s Out of the Blue EP, released April 11, 2025. It’s one of the most emotional and introspective tracks on the project — less about romance, more about burnout after being played.

Produced by Beatzvampire, the beat is moody and atmospheric. Light percussion, mellow pads, and minimal strings create a late-night, walking-alone vibe. It lets Olivetheboy’s voice sit front and center, raw and unfiltered.

The chorus tells you everything:
“Oh, I used to have a girl wey love me more than me / Now I’m outside, I’m burning trees.”
“Burning trees” is slang for smoking weed to cope, but it’s also a metaphor for letting go of something that used to be solid. The “Cinderella” reference flips the fairy tale — she’s gone, and he’s left dealing with the aftermath.

Lyrically, Olivetheboy talks about trust issues and betrayal:
“I believed in love and affection, now e affect my thinking / They lied to me and I believed it, oh no.”
Lines like “we dey wake up to go break up, that be the formula now” capture how tiring modern dating feels. The pre-chorus “I don’t wanna come back to love again when I die” hits hard — it’s exhaustion, not just sadness.
