Egwu by Chike & MohBad
Egwu by Chike & MohBad
Egwu means “song” in Igbo, and Chike & MohBad gave us a song to remember. Released 15 December 2023. 1 song, 2 minutes. Brothers Records. ONErpm. This is one of the first major posthumous MohBad drops after his passing in September 2023.
Chike holds it down with his signature highlife soul. MohBad comes in with that raw Imole energy. The beat is light, airy, nostalgic. A red convertible, open skies, two legends on a joyride. The cover tells the story before you press play. It’s not a sad song. It’s a celebration.
This was recorded before Imole passed. Chike confirmed they made it during sessions for his album. He kept MohBad’s verse intact. No changes. No autotune to clean the pain. You hear MohBad exactly how he laid it. Playful, melodic, street but hopeful. He’s talking about living, dancing, ignoring the noise.
Egwu blew up because it felt like a message from beyond. “Make we dance, make we no reason wetin dey sup.” In 2026, that line still wrecks people. MohBad telling us to keep dancing even when life no balance. Chike gave him the perfect bed of vocals to float on. Two different worlds — highlife prince and street pop prophet — meeting in the clouds.
The single dropped 3 months after Imole’s death. No promo, just purpose. It debuted at #1 Nigeria and stayed there for weeks. Fans said it was healing. The video uses the artwork concept. Red car, open road, Imole smiling.
