Asamoah Gyan: “You Can’t Mention the World Cup Without Me”

Ghana’s all-time top scorer is back in the headlines. Asamoah Gyan says he felt honoured and proud after being selected to unveil the new Black Stars jersey ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Gyan was officially appointed brand ambassador for Ghana’s national teams + colt football. At the jersey unveiling, he said _“When I was called to unveil the national team jersey, I felt very happy to represent the country. I feel proud of myself”_.

True to Gyan, he didn’t hold back. _“When it comes to World Cup, you cannot mention World Cup without mentioning Asamoah Gyan”_. Africa’s top scorer at the tournament is reminding everyone of his legacy before Ghana hits the global stage in 2026.

Beyond the flex, Gyan thanked Ghanaians for years of support and promised to keep serving through football. He reaffirmed commitment to grassroots development: _“I’m here to serve. I will do everything possible to take football to the next level”_.

With the 2026 World Cup coming, GFA is leaning on legends to push the Black Stars brand. Gyan’s appointment puts him at the center of promo work locally + internationally. Also comes weeks after he opened up about battling depression — showing a more personal side off the pitch.

Fans online are split between pride for the legend and debate over the “without me” line. But one thing’s clear — Gyan still owns that World Cup conversation for Ghana.

Legend energy or too much confidence — what’s your take on that line?
