Kwabena Kwabena Calls For FDA Probe Into Voltic Cool Sachet Water Over Alleged Colour Change

Ghanaian highlife musician Kwabena Kwabena has called on the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) to investigate Voltic Cool sachet water after alleging that a sachet he purchased for cooking changed colour.

The musician is urging the regulator to establish what may have caused the reported colour change and to determine whether the product in question meets the required safety and quality standards.

According to him, the sachet water was bought for cooking purposes, but the unusual change in colour raised concerns about its quality and suitability for use.

His concern comes amid ongoing public discussions about sachet water safety in Ghana, where packaged water remains a major source of drinking water for many households.

The FDA has over the years stressed the need for sachet water producers to adhere strictly to approved production standards, including proper sanitation and effective water treatment.

In May 2026, the Authority reiterated the importance of functional ultraviolet (UV) sterilisation systems in sachet water production, cautioning that filtration alone may not be sufficient to eliminate harmful microorganisms.

The Authority has also consistently highlighted the need for routine inspections, product testing and compliance with safety requirements within the packaged water industry.

In this instance, the claim made by Kwabena Kwabena relates only to the specific sachet he says he purchased and does not by itself establish that Voltic Cool sachet water is generally unsafe for consumption.

The exact cause of the reported colour change is yet to be determined, and laboratory testing would be required to establish whether the sachet was contaminated or failed to meet the approved standards.
